Cheshire East comprises the former district councils of Crewe & Nantwich, Macclesfield and Congleton. The main towns are Crewe, Nantwich, Congleton, Macclesfield, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Prestbury.
Crewe is a thriving modern industrial and commercial centre - one of the fastest-growing economies in the Northwest of recent years. With a strong manufacturing tradition, particularly in motor vehicles and rail engineering, Crewe is home to many large prestigious companies and is the home of Bentley Motors.
Nantwich is an attractive bustling town of black and white timber framed buildings, typical of a Cheshire town, and a magnet for tourists who come for its excellent high class individual shops and its bars and restaurants. Nantwich has strong agricultural links, particularly in the dairy industry, and has a specialist agricultural and land-based industries college at Reaseheath.
Macclesfield is located in north east Cheshire in the foothills of the southern Pennines and is home to one of the UK's most successful businesses - AstraZeneca.
Congleton is located in the southeast of the County and lies 12 miles (19 km) north of Stoke-on-Trent and 28 miles (45km) south of Manchester. The M6 motorway passes through the Borough with convenient access points at Junctions 16,17 and 18.
