Cheshire & Warrington Medium-Sized Towns Study

Cheshire & Warrington Medium-Sized Towns Study

Cheshire & Warrington Medium-Sized Towns Study - December 2009

A joint study commissioned by CWEA and the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to look at the roles, functions and interactions of smaller towns in the economy.

Undertaken by Pion Economics in conjunction with Professor Brian Robson from the University of Manchester, the study's purpose is to investigate the characteristics and relationships between a number of medium-sized towns in Cheshire and Warrington and extend aspects of the recent NWDA Places study to smaller geographies.

Eighteen towns are considered in the study and were grouped together in a series of spatial 'domains'. These are:

• North East Cheshire: Alderley Edge, Bollington, Knutsford, Poynton and Wilmslow;
• Rural Eastern Cheshire: Alsager, Congleton, Macclesfield, Nantwich and Sandbach;
• Mid Cheshire: Middlewich, Northwich and Winsford;
• Western Cheshire: Ellesmere Port, Frodsham and Neston; and
• Warrington: Culcheth and Lymm.
