&lt;p&gt;The Mersey Tidal Power project has passed a notable milestone with the completion of the first stage of a major feasibility study designed to select a preferred scheme for generating electricity from the tides within the Mersey Estuary.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A rigorous technical screening of a wide range of tidal power options has been performed. This assessment has resulted in the selection of four main technologies that will be taken forward for fuller analysis.&lt;/p&gt;

 <description>&lt;h1&gt;Sankey Canal Phase 1 Improvements – New Funding award &lt;/h1&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A Pilot scheme to regenerate Sankey Canal has received a further funding boost this week. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The derelict canal section linking Fiddlers Ferry Marina to Widnes has already been awarded £70,000 from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) REVIVE land regeneration initiative which is led by Cheshire West and Chester Council.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This funding will be used to undertake essential assessment works including structural surveys of the canal and further studies of the park and water wildlife habitats. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Now in its eighth successive year, the Northwest Business Environment Awards is searching for the green business heroes of 2010 across companies both large and small, including entrepreneurs and new start-ups. Deadline for entries to the Northwest Business Environment Awards 2010 is May 14th.&lt;/p&gt;

 <description>&lt;h1&gt;Green makeover for low carbon winners&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/h1&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Twelve communities from across the UK are today celebrating after winning up to £500,000 each to help install new green technologies such as solar panels, hydro turbines and energy saving insulation.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The grant money, awarded through the Government’s Low Carbon Community Challenge, will be spent on a range of green measures which will cut carbon, save money on energy bills, and could even see some communities make cash from generating their own energy – thanks to the Government’s new clean energy scheme.&lt;/p&gt;
